AHA/BHA Peel Treatment
in St. Lucie
Professional Grade-Alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid peels.
Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are mild substances that produce light peels. They can be used as an additional exfoliating treatment to some of our facials, or as a series of treatments to exfoliate dead, damaged skin, minimize fine lines, clear breakouts, and enhance your complexion.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid Peel
Alpha hydroxy acids are naturally derived from sugars, fruits, and milk. AHAs include lactic acid from milk; glycolic acid from sugar cane; malic acid from pears and apples; and citric acid from oranges and lemons. AHA peels are more popular for removing dead cells on the surface of the skin, thus smoothing and rejuvenating the skin. AHA peels are often called light peels and are one of the mildest peels in our clinic. If someone does not have time for recovery but still wants to shed rough, dry, dull looking skin the gentle touch of a combination of glycolic, lactic, and fruit acids would be the right choice. This peel can be used as an additional exfoliating treatment in one of our facials or as a series of treatments.
Beta Hydroxy Acid Peel
Salicylic acid is a natural chemical extracted from willow bark and wintergreen leaves, and sweet birch bark. It also assists in the exfoliation of the surface cells, specifically the cells lining the sebaceous (oil) ducts. It works on open comedos (familiarly known as blackheads) by loosening the plugs, and peels the rim of the pore thus creating a more exposed opening for removal. We often use salicylic peels during our acne facials as it helps with exfoliation, inflammation, and acne propionibacterium.
The amount of exfoliation that occurs depends on the product’s strength and other ingredients. Furthermore, it can take multiple applications of any AHA or BHA treatment before the desired results are achieved.According to studies conducted at the Ohio State University and Massachusetts General Hospital, regular use of AHA products can result in a smoother, more even toned complexion.
